XFX officially stops doing Nvidia

Anyone actually " want XFX "??

Indeed, can't think why anyone would concern themselves with graphics card brand before anything else. For me, the brand of card has never really been a specific choice, it's just been whatever's offering the best price or overall package at the time.

It's not a real surprise, XFX have been pretty AMD oriented since they started selling their cards. I don't think it's much of a loss for Nvidia, though. At least it's nothing compared to the loss of BFG in terms of mindshare. I think the main issue for Nvidia is that the tables may be turning in terms of who has the majority of better AIBs - although Nvidia are probably okay until one of AMD's partners starts giving out warranties that rival eVGA's.

if a certain anti nvidia fanatic (charlie) is to be believed, then selling the whole card results in lower margins for nvidia...

I didn't think he said that, think about it, if that was the case all AIB's would have gone bust by now.
If I remember correctly or I maybe remembering Kyle from HardOCP, I think he said AIB's were more experienced at running the retail side of the business and dealing with the piles of costly RMA's of perfectly working cards that can't be sold as new, and that retail is super hard/competitive and is littered with failures, hence if you haven't got your **** together you will lose money. So if Nvidia doesn't already have systems in place that keep everything running like clockwork, they potentially stand to lose money.
This suggests Nvidia's intention isn't simply an innocent trial, otherwise they would have saved them selves the hassle and got another AIB to take up the slack, instead they are willing to sacrifice some short term profit which speaks volumes.

XFX broke the terms of a contract and Nvidia kicked them in the balls.

I'm sure Nvidia did their homework and realised no one but a minority whinny litlle ATI fanboys will ever give 2 hoots

For me this is Nvidia only USP, there AIB’s give fantastic warranties whereas AMD’s give you only 2 years on high end parts and the best warranty is a rather run of the mill 3 year warranty (Asus and Gigabyte). I think in the North America it’s a bit different XFX gives out double life time warranties on high end AMD cards so it looks like were getting screwed over again. 3 years I think is enough for most of us but it is nice to now that if you choose to keep a card you can get it replaced at any time if it goes wrong.

I dont believe thats what he said. If I remember correctly he said their overall profits will increase but margins as a % would decrease due to the cost of producing the board being high & the additional profit this will bring being small compared to the profit from just selling the chips to AIBs. As mentioned by others if producing the final card resulted in a loss then all of the AIBs would have gone bust a long time ago.

The only XFX card I ever bought was an unstable pre-overclocked card, the reduction in competition is a bummer but I shan't miss them specifically.

well at least i won't get annoyed everytime i buy a supreme xxx edition then find out theres 3 versions of it each progressively faster than them with more hidden buzz words in the small print. Also they can never compete with asus RMA and infact although i never buy msi cards these days they basically swapped any piece of crap i sent them for free back in the day.

the majority of my nvidia cards have been reference xfx, I always got the impression they were a solid company. I think it's a shame but tbh there are so many others to choose from. Only xfx know if they are better off with ati, it's a small blow to nvidia but nothing major.
