My trusty Corsair TX650 died last night (fails paperclip test) and I don't really fancy waiting for a warranty replacement to go through (I'll still do that, but sell the thing).

I've been looking for a modular PSU anyway, and the XFX one (750w Black Edition) seems quite competitively priced. It's a seasonic unit, like the Corsairs IIRC, and has got a good review from JonnyGuru - so what's the catch?

The main reason they're cheaper than the Corsair and Seasonic units based on the same design is that Corsair and Seasonic price their PSUs higher.
Their performance is excellent and the cables are nicely sleeved, only downside (for some) might be the green fan.
Honestly, I'd say that XFX power supplies are one of, if not the best in terms of price/performance.

Ive only had one (850w Black edition).

It was d.o.a. and I am still waiting for it back after months as XFX told me I must go through the retailer.

I have the 750w version and it is very good! Very quiet and keeps my crossfire in check :p Very good.

Only complaint would be the sleeving( not the best). I just contacted Overclockers customer service and they said that as long as you don't remove the "warranty void if removed" sticker, then you can re-sleeve the cables and it won't void the warranty. :D

This is standard practice for a lot of manufacturers, it depends entirely on the retailer as to what customer service you will get. To be still waiting after months is terrible.

As for DOAs, yes they do happen to every manufacturer, and yes they're unfortunate. It's all in how the return is handled, a DOA item should be replaced immediately. Again, the key is in where you buy from.

Got the PSU yesterday and I was quite shocked with how heavy the thing is; the box weighs 4.5 Kg!

Seems really well built - got it installed fine. Only downsides so far are the 24pin cable being too thick and too stiff to route behind mobo tray, but I've managed to tuck it out of the way. The 8 pin CPU cable is also shorter than the one on my Corsair TX650 so routing it over mobo until I buy an extension cable.

One thing that I'd like to see is PSU makers including is a 2nd set of modular cables for when you have the PSU mounted at the bottom of your case upside down (as a lot of cases do these days) as it would make cable management so much easier - I could always mod the cables though, so not too much of a problem.

+1, I think my XFX XXX 650W is fantastic and you cannot hear the fan at all.
