I have a new PC build and a clean install OS (Windows 8) which does not recognise the XFX R9 290 GFX card - under display adapter it shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
When I use the disk that comes with the XFX card it crashes (goes black screen) when installing the driver and doesn't come back.
Exactly the same behaviour if I update the properties of the adapter and manually select the driver.
I booted into safe mode, manually updated the driver (which worked) ... but then when I started Windows 8 normally I get a black screen after BIOS. So even after getting the right driver on there it crashes!
I'm running a Asus Z97-P motherboard updated to the latest BIOS.
Also ... before I got this far the card seemed black screened after about 1 minute of turning on but this seems to have stopped. I've done so many clean installs of Windows 8 diagnosing this I'm not sure if that fixed the card or something else did!
Any suggestions other than send the card back?!
Thanks,
Dez
