Iam having issues with a 6800 xxx (Pair of) here is the issue I am having

Below is the ticket and problem I sent to them and it has now been 3 days. There is no way of getting an RMA over the phone and the support is only 0906, overclockers do not provide any support and to be honest havent been helpful... I am hoping someone on the forums may be able to help alittle.

I purchased 4 of these video cards to build 2 seperate systems in feb 2006. The system had 6800s running in SLi on the same spec, one system is fine. The other system which I built for my father - when the core of the card runs at below 40c The machine locks up I have tried the following:

-Runing the lastest BOIS update on the ASUS website

- apprantly fixes problems with PCIXe cards. No effect.

- Running the latest video drivers for Nvidia , latest chipset drivers. Still no effect.

- Clean install of windows

- still the same problem.

- My dad did recall seeing a message about nvdisp.dll and a message about voltage on one error.

- It doesnt seem to also matter if the cards are run in Sli or not. - Once the card gets over 40c it seems fine.

I do not think this is a faulty card, but yet it is annoying and I do not know what to try next. I has been suggested to me that a BIOS update for the card would fix the problem, I am aware that this would void any warrenty on the card. So I am not willing to do this. (Unless youre able to send me the file and instuctions/support this) I have also tried swapping the cards around (moving the cards to the other slot on the board) incase there was a problem with the slot on the board.

My Next step will be to remove each card 1 at a time and see if they both have the problem. (Only thing I havrnt tried) I have not been able to recreate this problem on the second machine as the room its in is warmer, and it is not possible to move the machine to a cold location to test. I have searched for a solution to this online, and it has been reffered to as the Nvidia cold bug, but there is no definate solution. I am now desparate for some more advise on this as it is now at the stage where we need to replace the card if its not fixed. My father is very annoyed at me, and now hassleing me to get a new card. hoping desparatly you can give me a solution.

Hi there

Try one card at a time as you suggest. If they are not faulty then not much OcUK can do I am afraid.

If they are indeed faulty then send back to OcUK and then were in the hands of XFX repairing or replacing them which to be frank could be a long time and hence why we don't sell their product any more. Or XFX may just reject the product saying its not faulty, they do that quite a lot.

I intend to do this, and is pretty much the only thing I havent tried. Thank you for the rapid response. As I said it is my fathers machine I built on behalf of him, so I have to do this later.

I plan to test each card indvidaually in the primary slot on the card. If the problems still occurs Im still a bit stuck. The power supply is over 500 watts and is a branded Hyper modular one, so this should be no problem and they should run perfectly fine as there matching in sli.

Anyone suggest anything if I am still having the same problem with single cards?

have you tried swapping your cards into your farthers machine?

And vice versa?

Just to rule out any other possible environmental issues.

Dude, if all else fails use NiBiTor to make a custom BIOS (there is an option in there to disable the temp monitor, i.e. "cold bug fix"). Then just flash the cards with this new BIOS.

Technically yes it does void your warranty (although no-one can tell), but if you RMA the cards then chances are that nothing wrong will be found, and you'll get charged for the RMA.

Your call...
