XFX X58i Will Not Overclock (At All!)

Hello,

I've been putting together my i7 920 with XFX X58i motherboard, and I thought I'd get right down to the business of overclocking it. Unlike a few other posts I've seen, I have plenty of settings that I can tweak. But I left most of them on 'auto', and just played with the BCLK and CPU voltage. The problem is that whenever I change the BLCK from anything other than its standard 133, the board will not boot. Even 150 @ 1.4V will not boot.

At 133, the boards runs absolutely fine.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Any chance that you can send it back to wherever you got it and buy a decent X58 instead?

I have experienced the joys of this board in my professional life and lets just say that after buying a pallet load and testing about 15 of them I decided that it was best to just send them back to XFX. Memory problems, terrible OC ability, stability issues, worst motherboard that I'd ever used by far :(

Yeah I'm getting that impression reading around. I used to think XFX was a respectable brand but over the last couple of years they've been getting some pretty dire user reviews. I can't imagine they'll be in business too much longer at this rate.

Anyway, I decided to manually set the uncore and memory multiplier to 12x and 6x respectively, which didn't help. I have a feeling the BIOS is trying to set daft settings on something when I change the BCLK, but I've basically exhausted all the things I can control manually - unless it's the voltages.

Well I bought an MSI X58 Platinum on ebay for £50. MSI is my second least favourite company right now but £50 is pretty cheap, and I'm hoping it will be able to do at least some overclocking.

grab the latest BIOS for your board........when you push BCLK up to 150, what does it set your RAM speed to ? Make sure your RAM is getting the rated voltage too
