hi, so bought a gtx 480 recently to upgrade from a 5770 and have not been able to get the gtx to work.
i have a xfx780i mboard which has 3 pcie slots, when 480 is in slot 1/2/3 i get long beep and 2/3 short beeps and no screen output.
when i put 8800gs in slot 1 and 480 in slot 2 i get "card in wrong slot to sli pls move" and have green lights on back of 480.
8800 gs in slot 1 and 480 in slot 3 and get long beep and 2/3 short beeps,no screen output.
sent card back to oc lads and there tests were all passed so something with my motherboard pcie slots and this card.the 8800gs work as does a ati 5770 works in slot but not this ?
im stumped,i have'nt updated bios since first install and see there is 1 genuine update and 1 modded update, should i try the genuine 1 ?
cheers for any help :)

updated it twice p09 and p10 but still getting longbeep then 2/3 short beeps.
does this 480 just not like my motherboard ?
dont know what to do now.

ok so bought a cheap gigabyte g41mt-s2p as a side grade till bulldozer is out (wanna upgrade soon) and card seem to work but have other problem now.
so before uninstalling old motherboard i didnt uninstall old motherboard drivers or anything before installing new board.
after installing motherboard and 480 in case all wired and i get bios screen and lights on card yay :) .
but now the comp crashes when the 4 lights come on the windows screen it crashes and gives a blue screen for a second ,then it reboots and seems to just crash on a loop.always at same point.tried windows rebuild.
do i uninstal old drivers when old motherboard is installed ?
do i have to reinstal w7 ?
whats correct procedure to upgrade motherboards ?
any help really appreciated
thanks :D

You should really do a clean install when you change your motherboard to an entirely different one.

You may get away with it with similar chipsets but you've gone from an Nvidia 780i to Intel G41.

Make sure you disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS.

that happened with me when my old hard drive failed and I wanted to use another one, but in the end I just reinstalled windows and it worked :)
