Xiaomi YU7

It's nicely styled. Certainly nicer that the garbage the Germans are putting out at the moment.

Looks like a Macan with Mclaren lights grafted on to it. Not a bad looking thing tbh.

I'm both loving, and terrified of the Chinese at the moment. They're absolutely schooling the usuals with their stuff, but the amount of things that are being conveniently ignored is quite alarming.

Couldn’t agree more. BMW Neue Klasse being case in point. Man have they been making some ugly cars recently.

In defence of BMW, it is original, much more so than most of the Chinese imports but damn, ugly is still ugly.

I’ve heard many positive opinions on Xiaomi vehicles but not a lot of depth. Didn’t watch the vid yet but will, thanks.

This popped up on my Reddit and my first thought was "Lol, fake", but it's legit. Why would they make the brakes like this?

So that's one of areas they cut corners then. Make the car look fancy, but skimp on the things which stop you from being killed lol...

Forget track use (these cars were never really safe to be anywhere near a track). But brakes that tiny on that power and mass would scare me on a brisk drive, or even if I had to an emergency stop. That's going to overheat in a second.

I wonder what the brakes are actually rated at. Their spec vs reality.

Because they want to make the brakes look big as that's what consumers expect but they don't really need massive calipers when so much of the braking force can be generated by the regen. Similar to why so many EVs have reverted to rear drum brakes - the rear brakes get so little use, discs cause more problems than they solve.

Most of the braking will be regen braking, spinning a motor/generator. Most EV's have relatively small pads compared to their fossil fuel guzzling siblings or competitors.

You still need brakes which match the power and weight of the car though. Regen isn't going to help in an emergency. Or even if you just want to drive fast.

It doesn't look like the brakes are the only issue either. According to one of the video they posted, the subframe apparently isn't up to scratch and the battery protection is weak. There is also a compressed gas tank at the rear outside of the crash protection.

Depends how much you want to risk your safety I guess. Looks about as safe Chinese scooters and e-bikes lol

It's not a cut corner if it's not actually needed - for normal road use the regenerative braking does most of the work.

Enough to do a couple of emergency stops fairly rapidly I would imagine, not however enough to do multiple hot laps of a race track.

When was the last time you ever did more than 1 emergency stop in quick succession.

you're being ironic - so they got to the bottom of the crash

think they need to get to the bottom of this fire

It looks nice, but I would not call it an SUV, like so many cars like this that claim to be an SUV the rear slopes down quickly so you do not get a decent boot, to me an SUV should be more squared at the back like a Enyaq or a Kia EV3/5/9

With regards to the brakes failing on track, it mentioned that this was an "influencer" behind the wheel. Does anyone else suspect that maybe the stability control was working overtime keeping them pointing in the right direction which may have been a factor in the brakes being evaporated to dust?

Also hitting the brakes and hearing a grinding noise then still deciding to send it full pelt into the next corner does make you question their general intelligence, or lack of.
