Your thoughts and opinions please :)

Would you buy one?
Would you not buy because you would be at a disadvantage to your controller play?
Would you not buy one because you think its unfair/cheating?

I'll take door number 3 Johnny! Sorry but I used to be a veeeeeeeeeery good PC gamer on CS, Q3 and PK and a little later on CoD4. A lot of my friends had bought consoles at the time and they eventually convinced me to buy a PS3, I can openly admit right now I may have been the worst pad player you'd have ever seen in the past but I stuck with it and now I'm normally in the top 3 on any scoreboard on FPS games I play, usually have 1 of the highest kd ratios also. You just have to keep at it, you probably think it's worthless right now but I promise you if you keep at it you WILL start to improve.

I just think using XIM is an easy way out, if you miss the feel of a mouse and keyboard so much you should really consider going back to PC gaming. You definitely do have an unfair advantage over pad players with XIM, let's face it the games were not designed for that kind of input so I would absolutely consider it cheating. For me it's not much different than the PC gamer who says 'I can't be bothered taking the time to get good, think I'll just download an aimbot here back in a minute'.

I'm not flaming you at all, I just think if you a put a little more time in on these games you'll feel a lot better for it knowing you did it the right way plus you'll save yourself quite a few pennies.

Yeah, I don't get this myself. Want to use M&K, use a pc.

Want to play on console, use a pad.

I gravitate more and more towards console these days as am going off M&K.

Would love to play BC2 on PC with pad, but it's not an option so play it on PS3.

Hurry up and get one Danny so I know what it's like :p

I will get one when I can get a relative to bring one over from the states. i aint paying postage and import duty as well.

Again, that view is a complete 180 on the ps3 thread. Where hacking the console was acceptable even though there are other alternatives out there as a 'media center'.

People can't have it both ways, either the console is completely locked down to be used as intended or you're free to expand on the item you have paid for.

There are other issues as well, apart from 'want to play with a KB and M get a pc. I gave up on PC gaming due to 5/10 games I loaded I ended up searching forums to sort out bugs, driver issues etc. Then there is the constant upgrades. Where as my outlay over 4/5 years on a console will be the console and I can continue to play relatively problem free.

Some people may want the best of both worlds, the pick up and play of a console game with the control methods of the PC. :)

Yeah, I don't get that either.

Want a media center that doesn't limit you? Get a htpc!

Absolutely hate it when things like this (console getting hacked) happen, as it open it up to cheating, etc.

Too many times when having a go an BF BC2 on PC and just felt like I was playing against cheaters (and likely was), but go over to PS3 and never feel like am playing against cheaters. I love that it is a level playing field.

Although I do find much frustration in coming up against someone whos kows how to fly an Apache in circles, able to avoid pretty much all fire and take out everything on the ground :( :)

Last time we had a thread on these somebody posted the link to the OCUK thread on the XIM forums so they could all come over and defend their cheating.

You saw defending their cheating, I saw some quality information on how the stuff works :)

No one will ever agree on this stuff as everyone has a different line.

agreed, i know it gets some people angry as you can see above and different people have different views on it. I Personally dont see anything wrong with it. PC gaming has many areas where a user can gain an advantage whether it be hardware, peripherals, internet connection ect ect.

Thats now coming to the console and yes the console was designed to be a more level platform but as danny stated people with faster internet moaned when that advantage was taken away. How many times do people with 5.1 headsets get called hackers because some how they knew someone was round the corner?

I dont think anyone needs to defend themselves, as if you feel it is unfair and you could also do better with a keyboard and mouse then go and buy one too, its not like its a mystical phantom that only a select few have access to.

We've been over this ground before.

One of the things I don't miss about PC Gaming is that it can be so varied based on how your hardware performs. On a console everybody is running the same hardware so that's all taken out of the equation.

As far as the Xbox 360 goes, internet connections and home cinema systems, big tvs are all components that the console is designed to be used with, it can't be considered cheating as it's designed to do that.

Using a device that fools the console into allowing you to use a keyboard is not what the console was designed to do. If Microsoft had wanted it, they would have designed their own Keyboard and Mouse a long time ago. Considering how far into the life of the machine we are and we have yet to see it, I think it's pretty clear that they have never had the interest and it takes away the level playing field.

It's cheating and no matter what people try and do to dress it up as otherwise or convince themselves it isn't, they are wrong.

who cares? if you're good enough, you need not worry about someone using a KB and mouse. i hate this argument. let people use what they want.

It does give an unfair advantage BUT if people want to pay a fortune for it and put up with the inconvenience of using it(as opposed to being able to relax and sit back on their sofa) then that's up to them.
I certainly wouldn't pay £150+ just to improve my k/d ratio on a game:p

You can't liken it to an internet connection as again by design the console has no restriction on what speed of connection it can run.

At the end of the day we are a long way from the days of 56k and the variables that brought, or people using ISDN or T1 when everyone else was on modems. The playing field is generally fairly level unless they are playing with people across the pond cause a higher ping.

The XIM again wasn't designed to be used on the console.

I just want to try one for myself, I'd probably never buy one as I prefer to recline in my chair and use the controller these days.

Would just be nice to have a go.

So does you living in a cable area while I have no access to better than 8mb ;)

Atleast you can have easy access to levelling the playing field with a XIM, cheaper than moving house ;)

A 512k internet connection is more than enough for online gaming, let alone 8mbit. Any capacity over that won't improve the games performance.
