Has anyone got one of these???

I have a sony Hi-Fi system that i dont use because all my music is on my pc. With the Xitel HiFi-Link i can make use of it again. Its around £45 but the pro version is £75.

For that price would it be better to get a sound card? Or will it be as good?

Cheers. Arron.

Probably better off with an M-audio 2496 card and interconnect cable, total around £65. This gives good quality stereo sound, but is probably more convenient as it's internal. Card available from a competitor for £55 (and the bay). Interconnect, Richer sounds Atlantic cable or something from the bay :)

Thanks for the help. I know very little about sound technology. Where do you connect the cable to on the back of the Hi-Fi?? The only one i can see is called "CD Digital Out" and its a small hole. Is that the one?

Sorry for the newbie question but can you explain in simplier terms what the card does exactly? I havnt a clue what the description means lol.

Thanks.

Ok, before you buy anything, make sure you have an "aux in", "rec in", or "line in" on your Hi-Fi unit available. It will appear as red and white phono connectors. It is an input your looking for :)

The card mainly changes digital signals in your computer into analogue signals for audio equiptment, using a DAC (digital analogue convertor). A card is usually the best solution to doing this, they are of varying quality and hence cost. Do you use a mic with your PC btw? I don't know that that card has the connector for one, so it's best if you don't.

The only other input i have is labeled "MD" and it has two inputs, one red and one white but im sure thats for and external Mini Disc player to be connected as this is one of the features of the Hi-Fi.

I guess i cant do it then :(

Can you suggest a good sound card for around the same price? I can get some good speakers then. I want the card to improve the sound in games too. I know nothing about sound cards and speakers lol.

Thanks again.

That MD input should be fine to use, so long as it's an input, not an output to copy from CD with? A good photo of it would let me confirm incase your worried :)
