Hi all,

Looking to spend about £40-£45 on some white wine for my parents for christmas. I was looking on Virgin Wines as we got a £40 off voucher from Amazon, but they are all about £60 for 12 bottle selection.

Has anyone got any ideas / suggestions on gift ideas? I'd rather get a few bottles (8 upwards, thats the idea..) instead of one of 2 really expensive ones.

Cheers,
Sam

I think it would depend largely on the regions and styles you were after.

For example, if I were buying for my parents I would get a few d'Arenberg wines (always very drinkable), something from the Loire region (best with seafood), a couple of tasty Sauvignon Blancs from the Marlborough region of NZ (can never go wrong with them), and something exotic to try when they're feeling adventurous (Georgian, Lebanese, Greek - mostly red wine producing regions, but you get the idea).

Ask yourself what they normally drink (or would like to), with what foods (if any), and when (do they cellar, or do they immediately open and serve). Should give you an idea of what to shoot for.

Aside from that, find yourself a decent merchant in your area and become best friends.

Pretty good advice, I'm not a white drinker myself but from my knowledge it's sound advice.

Hang on.

The voucher is for £40 off and the case would be £60 for 12 bottles. This means that it would cost you £20 after the discount, which brings you in £20-25 under your budget (of £40-45).

Or were you including the £40 discount in your budget? So you're looking to spend £0-5??
