Hey,
I'm working on getting my yearly email xmas card done for this year and decided that this year I wanted to simplify it by doing it by mail merge and as I DO NOT use outlook, I ahve found a solution that links into thunderbird. Unfortunatley the extension does not work with thunderbird 3 (I ahve tried).

I have therefore temporarily installed thunderbird 2 and the mailtweak extension and activated the "Personalise" tweak and clciked Message > Personalise and open up a blank email, so I type my email and use the fields:

%%name%%
%%email%%
%%forlink%%

and press the "Personalise" button where I choose the csv file I want to use whcih is as follows: (names been removed and replaced by ~)

email.csv:

name, forlink, email
Bob, Bob, ~~~~~.com
Jack Home, JackHome, [email protected]
Jack uni, JackUni, ~~~~~@stu.~~~~.ac.uk

when I preview the result for an email with the contents:

%%name%%
%%email%%
%%forlink%%

I get:

Bob

Nothing else just Bob, so it it seeing the name field and it is obviously seeing the email field as the recipient line is filled in correctly with each persons email address in, but if I try and use %%email%% and %%forlink% in the message then they just appear blank.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

I can get it so it opens a blank email and it replaces the SEND button with a PErsonalise button.

I write my email and use the fields that I ahve specified in the csv file in the first line as:

field1, field2, field3

but when i use them like:

%%field1%%
%%field2%%
%%field3%%

It will only replace %%field1%% with it's value from the csv file and leave the other two variables blank!
