Hi I'm running 16gb (2x8gb) Avexir core ram 2133mhz, when it's running at it's base 1600 it's fine the system is rock solid if I change it to it's XMP profile I get a warning as the system boots "boot failure due to system overclock". I'm not changing anything manually as I haven't got the experience to do so any help, advice, would be appreciated.

full system spec is.

Intel 2nd Gen i7 sandybridge 2600k 3.5Ghz

The memory isn't stable, been awhile since I've used Sandy but you need to increase your VCCSA voltage, try 1.15v and make sure DRAM voltage is correctly applied once you apply XMP.

Hi thanks for the input, I have just managed to recover the system a second time after it crashed last week, the only way I've been able to do so is to re flash the bios with the latest revision. Will try increasing the voltage and see what happens.

One question, I am able to access the bios when the fault occurs and reset to its default settings but this does not seem to cure the fault, the only way I'm able to do so is by using the usb memory stick and re flashing the BIOS does this suggest there might be a problem with the BIOS itself?

silly question but can the chip support 2133 mem?

Hi have just realised you where referring to the CPU, memory controller, not the MOBO, have just checked the spec and you are correct it will not support the 2133mhz thanks for the heads up, I'm on a steep learning curve. Will it cause any problems running the ram at the lower speed?

Just had a thought, please forgive me if this is a stupid question but I'm fairly new to building or altering a PC. The ram is capable of running at 2133mhz, can I alter the required settings I.E cas, voltage, timing to allow the ram to run at it's highest speed or am I restricted to 1600mhz by the CPU memory controller which on the I7 2600k is a max of 1600mhz.

You can go well over 1600MHz on Lynnfield so sandy will run higher. Unless you mean official Intel spec? In which case Haswell can only run 1600MHz too :p

Ok gents please treat me gently here as I’ve already mentioned I am new to this whole scenario…
Yes I was referring to the intel spec for the CPU memory controller, it specifies 1600mhz as being the highest supported memory speed.
1. Should I still be able to alter the BIOS memory settings to allow the Ram to run at its spec 2133mhz?
2. Will I have to alter them manually? As I’ve mentioned just enabling the XMP profile stops the system booting.
