Does anyone know exactly what the differences are between XMP 1.2 and 1.3? I was running 8GB of Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 1600 (2x4GB) and it has XMP version 1.2... I recently bought another 8GB of Corsair RAM (exact same model/part number) and it has XMP 1.3. My BIOS has now enabled XMP 1.3 although 2 of the sticks are only 1.2! Will I have issues with this? My CPU is an i7 4790k running stock and the mobo is an Asrock Z97 Extreme4.

The XMP Versions are just Performance settings IIRC, you select these and it sets the memory timings and speed for you.

I'd personally find out what they should be and adjust them manually.

I'm going to send the new 8GB Corsair Vengeance kit back as it's not the same as my other 2x4GB kit, even though they share the same model number and have the same style heatspreaders. Installing all 4 sticks just results in hard crashes no matter what I do in the BIOS. Running each kit (2x4GB) separately works fine, But the point was to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB.

I may as well just buy a 2x8GB kit.

I had exactly the same problem when I tried to add another 2x 4G kit of corsair, they would just not play nice together

The reps on the Corsair support forums were less than helpful (sarcastic end of bells)

I ended up just buying a 2 x 8G kingston kit instead
