Hi all. I just had a friend bring her laptop over when she said she had a virus on her pc.
Apparently is detected Win32.Rbot when she updated to the latest version of Xoftspy (trial) but nothing else seems to find it. I tried Search&Destroy (which found an antivirus disabler) and the Trend online scan, along with the Trend Anitvirus that was installed on the laptop. Nothing comes up.
Also, there seems to be a file running in the C:/Windows/temp folder that you cant delete till you kill it off in the Taskmanager, then it disappears of its own accord. Once the pc is rebooted however, the file returns under another name.
After various searches on the net, this detected virus bears none of the hallmarks of Win32.Rbot.
Oh, and i ran Xoftspy on my laptop with the same results. I have a funny feeling that its either a false positive of one of its own files or that it is deliberately set to detect a virus. The software downloaded is trial version and scans only, so payment is required to remove said virus.
Anyone heard anything about Xoftspy or perhaps uses it themselves?
Cheers
