I've been having problems with my Xonar D2 working in Windows 7. I've had to disable it now and use the onboard instead. It seems to have been causing certain applications/games to crash and when this happens I get the annoying looping from the last buffered sound. One is Oblivion which is buggy anyway but it had been working OK up to a point where it became unplayable. WinAmp is another which would sometimes crash for no reason. Now that it's disabled everythings been fine, no crashes. I'm using the latest drivers from ASUS.

Most things are fine ie Source based games but it's just annoying to have to keep disabling and enabled the card every time this happens. I've looked around and can't seem to find a solution. Is this a known thing or does it just effect a small number?

I'd give modified drivers a go, see if that solves the issues. Search for Unified Xonar drivers. You will need to uninstall the drivers you are using now, rather than install over the top. Not too sure if a driver cleaner is required to completely clear out the old ones.

I turned off GX and everything seems to be going well for now (no crashes as of yet). It even fixed the audio problem in Oblivion. Saying that it'll probably crash again at some point so I'll look into the driver packages suggested. :)
