I hope someone can offer some help with this because I’ve come to the end of what I can think of to resolve it.

Basic history, I went form soundmax on board to a xnoar D2X, the difference is simply amazing but I am having a few problems, Upon loading DXDiag it runs through the system info gathering part and gives the following error.

Dxdiag error.error problems getting extra sound info,
result code = 0x80070057 (invalid argument)

If you then click on either the Sound 1 or Sound 2 tabs it will pass all of the Direct sound tests without a problem but will give you the same error again if you move the hardware acceleration slider.

I don’t have many games installed but it has BSOD on several occasions during COD4.

In addition to the above I have noticed that the wave slider bar within the xonar control panel always moves to the lowest setting (ie its muted) when ever the pc is turned on, meaning that to get any sound out of it at all you have to move this slider on every boot, not a major problem but annoying.

The system is running a fully up to date version of XP64 , DX9.0c with the MS June DX hotfix and the latest 81738 RC01 Xonar drivers.

Initially I thought it was old on board drivers that were causing it so I brought forward the yearly format and started with a clean install but the problem persists.

The same error occurred before the MS June DX hotfix was applied and also when using the drivers that came with the soundcard.

I appreciate it that its not the end of the world but its an annoying error that I would like to fix, any offers of ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Posted on Asus site as well, as yet no responce

format > update (including .net) > Driver install

the 2 BSODs were

Portcls.sys and Cmudaxp.sys

The first one is a windows audio driver and the second is a C-Media driver thats part of the Asus driver set *xonar uses a cmedia chipset.
Note, these BSODs were pre format, not had chance to give it a blast tbh since the re install

those sets have cleared the dxdiag issue, although its still present when you run x64 dxdiag, the wave slider problem is still there though but hey ho 1 victory at a time :P
