Xonar D2X - SPDIF DDL/DTS or analogue for games?

Recently installed Asus Xonar D2X and have connected to my Onkyo 606 reciever and Canton 5.1 speakers via SPDIF (co-ax). When watching DVD's or movies I use the SPDIF pass through and let the AV reciever do the work. When playing games I have the card set to 6ch, 48khz, 5.1, Dolby Digital Live. Now would I be better using the analogue connections over using the SPDIF in terms of sound qaulity? I've only tried Bad Company 2 so far with DDL and it sounds great although I want to get the best out of the card and my set-up

If sticking with SPDIF what is everyones opinion of Dolby Digital Live vs DTS Connect?

Also when using the Asus control panel with latest drivers I've noticed the four DSP buttons (Hi-Fi, Game, Movies & Music) don't do anything, I assumed they were some sort of user presets you could edit but I can't figure em out?

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Asus P6X58D Premium Intel X58
Intel i7 930
BFG GTX 275 OCX

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I suggest listening to see what you prefer.

Would just add the proviso that if you're listening to anything in stereo via spdif, especially music I would switch to bit matched PCM as it is theoretically more accurate than Dolby Digital or DTS.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I don't have a set of 3.5mm cables to test.

Currently when listening to music I use the pass through and switch the AV reciever to 'all channel stereo', same as with my previous question would music also benefit from going the analogue route?

Don't know. I've not heard your receiver.

You could probably get an indication of respective quality by looking at the DACs in the receiver and comparing them with the ones on the D2X.

Can I ask how you got SPDIF passthrough working? I have the same card and OS and can't get anything with a DTS soundtrack to passthrough, it all seems to come out as DDL.
