Behind you... Naked!
I have a spare xonar and rather than see it going to waste, I was hoping to get it to play on a Linux box.

I have Sabayon 5.4 on my main Linux box and my wifes machine is Debian 6 and both these dont see the card at all.

Is there any form of linux that will work it straight off, or is it possible to get either Debian or Sabayon to work it?

Google provides very iffy infi about it.

Hi there,

I was under the impression that Xonar support was quite good for linux?

Just done a quick google and found that:

Xonar DX, D1, D2X, D2 work out of the box with alsa 1.0.23 version, DS works but has some bugs. DG is NOT working out of the box at all.

It appears its being worked on, chek THIS link. And there does appear to be ways of setting it up as a module or building it into your Kernel.

Good luck!

Yeah, and in typical fashion, the one thats spare that I want to use, is the DG.

I will sure go to the link, so thanks for that.

I should just use the XFI Gamer really... Its probably better than the DG but thats not the point.

From the link supplied it states that there is at least some support in Kernel .38 - what version of the kernel are running? Typing
Code:
 uname -r
in a terminal will tell you.

EDIT: A quick look here http://packages.sabayon.org/show/linux-sabayon,61308,sabayonlinux.org,amd64,5,standard shows that Sab has a package for .38 have you got it installed?

Sorry for the delay guys.
I have not had the chance to get to play on my Linux PC just yet, been a little side-tracked...
I will have a few hours to myself tomorrow ( so far anyway ) and I will have a look proper at what Kernel I am using. Its standard for the Sabayon box ( Sabayon v5.4 so whatever kernel that is, its that ) but Im also a little prone to Debian as of late since I am finding ubuntu a little too irritating and mint while gorgeous, is just too unreliable.
Although I am liking SuSE 11.4 a little ( only tested under a VM )

So, Sabayon is and will always be there and thats my preferred O/S as its far faster and more reliable than any other O/S I have ever tried.

Hmm.... Interesting! Many thanks...

ah right, ok many thanks guys... Yes, the new kernel does work it. The front panel does not work, but thats neither here nor there TBH. I am using a set of old Cambridge soundworks 4.1 speakers on the test PC and it does work 2 or 4 speakers as it should, so I dont see why it wont do any other options.

So, many thanks for that.

As for the D1 yes, the D1 worked right off but I also have this DG thats too good to not use ( Saying that I also have a couple of XFIs that are probably better than the DG but they too are packed away )

LOL

Many thanks guys... Sorry for the slow replies, when it comes to my main Linux box I take my time and do it right. the messing about is done on my test box
