Just wondering if anyone can help me, I have decided to upgrade my sound card and speakers from onboard sound and and old pair of logitech 5.1s that I have been using as 2.1's.

My dilemmer is this do I go for the Xonar ds or the d1/dx will be playing games, Music and watching films. I dont use headphones at all and will hopefully getting 1 of the following 2.1 speaker systems. Although im still doing research on the speakers.

Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1
swan m10's (If I can find a pair)
Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 (If I can find a pair)

Thanks

would love to buy either of those cards but my budget just cannot stretch to it I have £60 for a card and thats it

I would second that. I Bought the DS for my HTPC. I wanted something relatively cheap to replace the Audigy SE I bought not so long back, that I found out was completely useless when I connected my Creative optical module using Windows 7. Though the module is compatible with the SE, the reason I bought it, with Windows 7 connected to my 5.1 speakers via optical, only 1 speaker receives sound. Way to go Creative with your pathetic driver support. The Xonar DS on the other hand includes an optical module, and works fantastically well with my 5.1 speakers under Windows 7.

To cut it short. DS is good, DX/D1 is better, worth the extra Iwould say. :D

Definitely agree with DX running alternately through Creative p5800s and through an Audiolab 8000A biamp setup to Tannoy Revolutions R3's and still impressed how good it sound through kit that it should be completely out of it's league

Sorry to hijack, is a D1 pretty much a DX apart from it being PCI rather than the PCI-E of the DX?

just ordered the DX wasnt able to get it from OC as they were out of stock but got a great deal nextday delivered for £56 so im happy just need to buy my speakers now

I use my DS with Windows 7. Unless they havent released drivers for the Xonar's across the board. They are beta, and it does say they don't support the RTM version of W7. But I have them installed and it works great. :)

Ok my DX arrived today installed it and all I can say is wow what a difference to onboard sound, and thats with a crappy pair of logitechs cant wait to get my new speakers.

Is the only difference between the DS and DX dolby headphone ?. I'll be feeding the signal into my pioneer amp which isn't dolby headphone compatible so is the DX useless for me ?. These cards are supposed have an optical port but I can't see it, will I need a special adapter to connect it to my amp ?.
