Hi, I've just received a Xonar DX. I plugged the front panel header in and I don't seem to be getting any sound from it, but I am getting sound from ports on the card its self.
My suspicions are that the driver did not install correctly as, when the progress bar reached the end, a message popped up telling be to plug the card in and gave me the option to retry or cancel. I hit retry and the installer just became unresponsive. I just restarted the PC and control panel tells me that the drivers have installed (despite the installer crashing), but no front audio:confused:

Any advice will be much appreciated. (warning: I am a tech noob)

Ok, it seems to have installed properly this time, but still no front audio:(.
Another question, is it normal for the S/PDIF digital output to click loudly when it switches on or off?

Literally just found that option lol, didn't realise you had to or could do that, I thought it would work the same as onboard audio :o. Appears to be all good now thanks!:D

On the Xonar DG they introduced jack auto sensing, so it detects and changes to front panel when headphones are plugged in. It's a bit flaky though, as it doesn't always work, and it never reverts once the headphones are removed.

Quite why they were not able to do this with all Xonar's that have FP headers and get it to work, I don't know. Realtek have had that working for quite some time, and from my experience, without fail.

I rather like being able to leave headphones hooked up and just tick/untick a box to switch personally.

There's also the beauty of having it running the dolby upmix while being able to still have a mic plugged in (the mic on the back is also the SPDIF mini-jack port).

In the Xonar DX Audio Center, for the drop down box for the speakers switch from 2 speakers to Front Panel 2 Speaker/Front Panel Headphone.

Also, if you are using the driver from the CD, uninstall it and grab the latest one from Asus's site. The early drivers for the Asus sound card was very unstable.
