Xonar DX issue - RMA?

I recently bought a Xonar DX sound card from OC, and, after installing drivers etc, it is quiet and crackles on bass notes. My headphones (Sennheiser HD280) are also new - and work fine either with the onboard (motherboard) sound or my brother's PC. So I can safely assume it's the sound card.

Is an RMA necessary, or am I missing something obvious?

Whats your full specs and which OS are you running on?

Windows 7 64
AMD Phenom II 955 BE (@3.6GHz)
Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4
4GB G.Skill 2000MHz RAM (@1600MHz)
Asus 5850
Chieftec 750W PSU

Edit - I've got all the latest audio drivers - and all other drivers actually...

If it has a floppy connector like my d2x make sure the white plastic connector is as far back as it will go.

I had faint sounds and other problems due to this. Removed power lead, push the white plastic back on the card and reconnected and everything was fine.

I'm plugging directly into the soundcard at the back - though have tried the front panel audio (it's connected to the sound card) and it's the same anyway.

I thought it could be the power connector, but I've reseated it a few times and no success.

In the meantime, I've discovered that my motherboard (Gigabyte 790X-UD4) has Dolby Headphone, which is why I bought the Asus. Obviously, the Asus' sound quality would be a bit better, but I'm making do...

Greebo: Since you mentioned it, I checked again, and with a bit of wiggling, the white connector pushed about 3mm further back - now I have awesome sound - thanks for the suggestion! I knew it would be something simple - it always is!

Thanks to all those who posted suggestions.

Glad to hear it's fixed. It's a known common fault with them and a bad design. It had me stumped for a week as well when I first got mine.
