Hi

I need the pci slot my old audigy 2 is taking up, so basically looking at either a Xonar DX or x-fi extreme (both PCI-E versions). Opinion seems clearly in favour of the Xonar, but i'm just wondering if that includes cpu usage as well. The card will be used mostly for games, and a bit of music listening, and all with a 2 speaker setup.

thanks

The X-FI Xtreme Audio is utter rubbish, it's not a true X-Fi and dates back from the Audigy SE. The Xonar on the other hand is excellent and has comparable quality to the D2X. :)

The X-Fi also doesn't have proper hardware acceleration anyway, so I'd say the ASUS is better in that field since it does EAX5 in software.

Well I have had the Xonar for about a month now and for gaming the sound is incredible I can hear things which sound so realistic I duck or look over my shoulder!

CPU useage is minimal and only a few % worse than a Creative card so unlikely to be a drain and you could always overclock your Ram to compensate by a few %.

Bluray/HD-DVD sounds amazing as well either on SPDIF or analogue.

Just installed my Xonar DX after using an Audigy 2 ZS for the last 2 years, and what a difference. The sound quality is superb for games and music, and there is one simple to use control panel, that does not bog you down with too many settings.

Nice to hear you finally got your Xonar DX. Been running mine most of the afternoon on music.

What setting you got yours set to? Effects Set to Plain.

Cheers
