Anyone have any ideas/experienced before?

For some unknown reason my Xonar DX is really quiet - which is usually an indication of no power through the floppy connector - only thing is, I can unplug and plug the connector back in when the PC is on, and it'll go loud again, but only after the drivers detect that there's no external power. Why Asus couldn't have designed the DX to simply draw power through the PCI-E slot (which is entirely possible - the Creative cards do) is beyond me (well, cost I guess - this way it can be mostly the same as a D1), but more so is the way that there's no power on startup, but if I unplug it and plug back in, suddenly the card has power.

Make sure the socket hasn't worked it's way out and is stopping you from getting a decent connection on the power connector, I'd also very much advise against messing with the connector while the pc is on, you may very well damage something.

I think Asus didn't redisign the card fully for PCI-E use, they just fudged together a bridge to convert PCI to PCI-E which cannot carry enough power from the PCI-E interface.

My DX has been fine from the start. I've never needed to fiddle with the external power connector and have never had a message that it's been disconnected or anything.

It could just be a fault with your card or the connector itself. Are you running off the adaptor that ships with the card or off the PSUs floppy connector itself?

I've tried both unfortunately Tealc - neither is great. I may have to revert to a Xonar PCI card, but this is the second Xonar with fundamental problems (I've owned 4 in total), and I'm rather fed up with it to be honest. Only thing is Creative are meant to be worse...
