Just wanted to check this. Anyone got their xonar breakout audio connector hooked up to seperate jacks without bagloads of interference?

Considering fabricating a quick replacement to my front panel with decent, shielded cable etc just to see if its the front panel connectors on my case that are crap (highly likely) but wanted to make sure someone had done it problem free first before I throw money at it.

Alternatively. Is there any way to go DDL using the toslink AND plug a microphone in? They share a common port with the mic port having the toslink LED at the back of it so I don't see a way of having both.

I've been using this port as mic without issue so it is just related to the front panel either the port on the xonar or the connectors on the front panel.

Unshielded cable picking up interference, you could get a ferrite ring and see if that helps any. Alternatively you may have a ground loop, if you search for it there's a handy thread someone made about that very issue.

As a quick n dirty solution I think i'm just going to plug in a crappy USB soundcard I have to steal it's mic input. Avoids having to mess :)

I have this on mine too, the noise is terrible. That being said it was terrible on the onboard sound as well so I suspect the cable going to the front port rather than the sound card(s).

As I happen to have changed cases I can confirm: Yup front panel audio on the Antec 900 is gash. It's actually perfectly fine on the fractal design R3 though.

I tried connecting the front audio cable to my X-fi fatal1ty and got that horrible static noise in 4 different cases. I just connect my headphones directly to the sound card but it is annoying
