Xonar Essence ST/STX power connection

I have read that the power connection on the card is mainly used for the headphone amp. Does this mean if i only listen to lineout I can disconnected the molex power connection to the card, or will it not function properly as it says when its disconnected.

I have a headphone port on my amp anyway so no need for the headphone out on the card
 
Get the xonar st/stx. I use one for gaming or music through either stereo headphones or Dolby Digital 5.1 fed to an external AV Amp. This gives you the best of both worlds. Most games today are Dolby Digital encoded not EAX & you can pass this straight to an external amp for decoding.
 
I have the STX and have DD optical going to my Amp for 7.1 and a Aego 2.1 connected to the stereo rca's. Its an excellent soundcard, it will need the molex power connector attached to operate correctly.

complete waste of an STX, get some decent gear on there :p
