Hi,
Already asked this on Asus forum but it seems a bit dead on there.

I have the Xonar Essence STX,Great card however i have one major problem with it i have never really been able to fix.
Audio is fine for me,But when i use my Mic and talk to friends over Discord,Skype etc they can hear a Buzzing sound just like a Bee,And the buzzing sound gets worse when i launch an demanding application such as a game,So im guessing its some interference issue but ive literally tried the following.

Moved the sound card away from my Graphics card (didn't change anything)
Changed my Mic (didn't change anything)

really need to get this issue sorted as its not fair on them to have to hear that.
appreciate any help.
thank you.>

Not had much luck getting a clean signal from mics on PC. Had issues with my previous motherboards on board audio, so bought an Asus D2X. Great sound quality but mic input was pretty poor, and had volume issues as well.

Ended up getting an external behringer USB sound board and mixer (their smallest I think) for my gaming headset which worked out well for me. Isolates any potential feedback from on board devices.

Not sure what you can do really, other than to get maybe a USB one. I remember this happening to another member quite some time ago now with his STX card. He tried everything to be rid of the noise with the STX, but nothing helped AFAIK.

Sound cards and microphones are always going to be a weak point, because while you can connect an optical DAC and amp to the sound card to take the audio output processing outside of the PC away from noise, whilst still retaining DSP modes such as Dolby Headphone; the microphone will always be connected via a copper wire so which is prone to interference.

Yep I've had this problem with the same sound card - tried the same sort of thing as you but couldn't fix it. I believe the EM shield on the essence doesn't cover the mic chip hence it's vulnerability to interference. I suppose you could therefore try and add a bit more shielding to uncovered part of the card but I just bought a USB mic :)

xonar stx, was just about to search about the same issues, changed my mic etc and people say when i speak the noises are not good. Today i heard the sound distortion in a game too, the mic issue has been there for a while but it seems its creeping into my own sound output at home too.

Its pretty much always been an issue on my system regardless of what sound card ive had,Guess il have to buy a USB mic and try that..knowing my luck it will still be the same. :/
