hiya guys

About to buy my new build. I have copies of the 64bit and 32bit editions of XP.
Which one should I install?

I've seen a few benchmarks of the E8400 processor that i'm getting, and everyone seems to have the 32bit?!

Any ideas?
Cheers

Depends on how much memory you are planning on running. If you plan to run 3.5GB plus then you must go for the 64 bit, if you are running less than that you will be fine with *** 32 bit.

As it stands the 64 bit still has some compatability issues with lesser known programes etc but nothing major.

Personally i would go 64 bit anyway.

I'd go for 64-bit any day of the week.

More and more programs are being supported. If you're never going to have more than 2GB RAM then there's no point in moving but if you're going to run 3+ GB I'd move. Memory prices are so cheap at the moment as well.

Personally I would dual boot them 2 os'es. Well thats what I have done. At least if you then find something that wont run under 64bit then you can boot back to 32bit xp.
The only thing I have had to do this for so far is the original halflife, wouldnt run under 64bit xp.

A 32bit OS can address 4gb of memory in total, that includes graphics RAM, caches, DMA mapped devices and a few other things. So, no, it won't address all 4GB of your system RAM.

half life under steam works fine, register you key with steam and it'll work fine :)

Steam is a nonsense I can well do without, its on par with vista in my opinion :D
My ORIGINAL halflife cd must be from 1999 or thereabouts, not a problem though as I play it under 32bit xp :)
