Well as per title, Im thinking about going for WIndows XP 64 bit as I've hard that this can handle the full 4GB of RAM? or is this just for Vista 64 bit?

If so is it even worth it? I know I decided not to install 64 bit a few months back due to drivers issues etc, has stuff changed since then?

Thanks

x86 operating systems can only address about 3.25GB RAM, x64 can address more, be it Vista or XP.

I'm running Vista x64 and I love it. Very worth it. :D

Hey Firefly86, any 64-bit operating system weather that be Windows XP or Vista will be able to address more than 4GB of memory.

If your looking at getting a 64-bit operating system, i would be very much inclined to go for Vista 64-bit. The support for Vista is now fantastic and is getting even better all the time. :)

thanks for all the advice guys :)
Fire Wizard, I am a little weary of Vista atm :S Im hearing a lot of good things but im inclined to stick to XP until Vist'a first SP comes out.

I tried Vista about 3 months ago and I hated it :S Had driver and program compatibility issues all over the place. Is this better now?

Also, is it more of a resource hog than xp?

Thanks :)

The thing with Xp64 is that its more Windows 2003 than Windows XP under the hood. If I was you and really need a 64bit Windows I would go with Vista any day. I would think that there is more 64 bit drivers for Vista than there is for XP64 and unless you got a really really obscure hardware you will find Vista 64 bit drivers.

I use Vista Ultimate 64 at home and have had no problems with it so far, somethings are slightly annoying but every little patch is making it run faster and smoother.

Hey Firefly86, in my opinion the support is much better now that it was 3 months ago. Having said that though, their could be one program that you use which may still have a compatibility issue and this alone could once again ruin your experience when using Windows Vista.

Windows XP 64-bit is a brilliant operating system as well, no one can dispute that. So which ever operating system that you go for, im sure you will be happy with it. :)

Windows Vista is built slightly different to how XP was. Vista takes advantage of all of the system resources that it is able to gain access too for example memory. (This is a good thing)

Now when an application demands say for example memory, Vista will happily give that particular application the appropriate amount that it needs. :)
