Just wondered what people's thought's on xp 64 were as a gaming platform.

Currently running this as my os,and i'm finding games to be a little sluggish, and a bit choppy.doesn't quite seem as fast as xp 32

Got a q6600 @stock,4gig and a 88oogts+all the latest drivers

Any comments welcome :)

from what ive heard xp 64 is pretty poor for gaming

if you must go 64 best bet is vista 64

Cheers for the replies :)

May stick with this then for the time being, and look for some tweak guides etc.

I was tempted by vista, but a friend had so many problems with it,kinda put me off.

My missus has been running XP64 for about a year and had no problems with games. The only issue she had was with a Zoo Tycoon expansion - the installer wasn't compatible with XP64 so she had to download a patch for the installer. Funny considering the game was from Microsoft Game Studios :)

vista 64 works fine for me, not totally keen on the new interface with files and folders but thats my only complaint, good to be rid of all the random screwups xp managed to give me. As for games I think I lost about 5 fps on the cs s stress test going from xp 32 to vista 64 and even then it's still fetching 190+. Bioshock seems identical and tf2 runs fine. No sluggishness here!

Been using XP x64 since this afternoon ;)

seems PERFECT on Bioshock. better, even than my friend who's got a similar spec PC with XP x86.

Been using XP64 for a few years and have no performance issues with games at all. The only game related issue I have had is some games wont install under XP64 but these are few and far between (plus there are often patches to fix this)

Been using XP x64 since it came out and never noticed it being worse than XP x86. Have been using it exclusively on my new PC since April and recently installed Vista x64, still find XP x64 better overall for gaming though.

Using Vista 64, but I do have a fairly chunky system, I havent notcied any downgrade in gaming performance, well pleased with 64, actually better driver support for me over 32, which is strange.

Pffft always the same isnt it. What sort of problems is he having?

People do love to way over exagerate when it comes to vista and problems.

He was gettin random bsod's,restarts and struggled to get his joypad and sound

card to work properly

Kinda gettin to grips with x64 now.4 gig is really starting to pay off :)

I too have been using XP 64 bit for a few years and haven't had a single problem with it at all. FPS are identical to 32 bit but in games that are built for 64 bit, the loading times can be shorter.

I can't think of a compelling reason to change my OS at the moment.
