Hi i have a new build on the go the problem is i only have xp for the momment will up grade it in a few weeks. Can i run my new rig with xp with sata and not ide for the hdd drive or will i need a driver for it.

Memory flash ..... xp. Oh yes, windows xp.

You don't need a driver for the sata drive.

You only need a driver if you are using a raid setup, two or more hard drives.

I think :p

Thanks for the reply the xp is an old version will prob get vista as i cant afford windows 7 atm but will have to wait a few weeks to get it though.

Soory didnt see you post but i want to install 2 drives so i can wipe one lol i have posted in the hdd forums asking this question. My head hurts now new build first build head spinning lol

You should be fine, even with an old copy of XP. As long as the drives aren't in a RAID configuration you shouldn't have a problem.

In regards to getting Vista over Windows 7, you can get W7 for the same price - if not cheaper then - Vista so keep shopping.

If your XP installer says it can't detect any HDD it means you should get drivers for SATA controller (if it's onboard -> get chipset or SATA drivers from website, unpack and save onto formatted floppy disk, make sure there's oemsetup file or something similar). Start installer again and press F6 when appropriate, white bar appears on the bottom. And follow messages :)

When i went to find the rc windows 7 it said yoy couldnt down load it any more

Most people I know of who are running it didn't get it directly from Microsoft.

It just means Microsoft aren't willing to host the ISO for dowload any more.

The problem is i havent got a floppy anymore lol went to the tech grave yard.Could i install as normal and then when xp is in download the controller then add the other hdd drive and then configure the bios for both hdd drives
