Xp boot issue

I'm running a couple of Scsi's from the Dell Perc 4e version of the Lsi Megaraid 2e. No matter what I put in the bios (mobo or Card) it will not boot unless the windows CD is in the drive.

I think it's the boot driver for the Scsi card that has died/been misplaced (The press F6 one to install scsi/raid drivers one) Does anyone know how I can manually force the driver back into my installation without re-installing? (Unfortunately Dell don't support XP  so many of us have used the 2000 driver in the installation and I suspect this is the problem - I have subsequently forced the LSI driver on the card in windows - which works beautifully - but it seems I need to find a way to get it into the boot section as well?)

hmm

in the bios, do you get hard disc priorty options?

set bootable add-in card as top priority, had this same problem yesterday on my server, has an abit motherboard (non dell..)

would only boot with cd in, until i change that setting

hmm

keep changing the boot order, and the hard disc priority order, it def should be able to boot with one setting if windows is installed :)

Winner!!! I have done as you said (and updated the bios for good measure) and it works - even with the Sata in! :D

Thanks dude - that ends what has been a very painful week!

glad to hear it

sata/scsi configs can play havoc with you, each manufacturer has a different way of implementing them!

Tell me about it - on my last card (Pci-x LSI) I had the pair of 15k's ID'd below my boot drive, so it tried to boot off them - had to tell the card to scan for drives backwards to get it to boot - bizaaaaar - but at least it's sorted now - still don't understand why it didn't work setting the order in the HDD section - can only assume something like the Old LSI problem and it was seeing the non-boot array instead of the Win Dirve
