Hi,

Im in the process of building a pc for a partially blind person. It's going to be running XP Pro. Any suggestions on what can be done to make things bigger/easier to read software wise?

Im not looking for text to speech programs. Was thinking more along the lines of magnifiers or software to make everything bigger (not just the web browser). I've seen the XP build in accessibility apps but they seem pretty poor. I've also been on the RNIB website but the programs on there cost hundreds (some even a grand) just for a magnifier. Freeware or cheap would be good.

Idea's welcome.

Cheers

We use either Jaws or Supernova depending on the persons preference but as you've mentioned they cost mega-bucks, I too trawled through the RNIB website a while ago for a friend of mine who lost his sight a few years ago but he managed to sort out a copy of Jaws for himself but I've no idea where he got it from.

Would the Mega big themes which are in XP be any use? and also, for example the contrast colours.

It must be a real pain in the bum if you are blindish to use a comp :/

Yeah maybe... i'll have a look if there's any full themes that are suitable for this task. All I can find on my xp at the sec is options to change the size of the fonts. Are there any sites that might have themes pre built for this task?

Also thanks for the Jaws suggestion. I'll have a look around.
