hi, this is my first post.

Ive just brought a new PC, its running AMD dual core 4200 with 2gb of ddr.

Ive yet to be able to use it properly as windows freezes up after about 5 - 10 minutes of using it and i have to restart.

Ive tried going to a system restore point when the shop installed the drivers for the CPU, but ive had no success with that.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be? before i have to lug it back to the shop.

Thanks
James

if you bought it from a shop, dont open it up just take it back to them

-be sure you're not keeping it in a really tight space (no air), as it could be overheating..

how new is it?

does anything show up in eventviewer?

-start, run, eventvwr

look in there for anything with a red mark next to it after its restarted, i'd guess its just a bad stick of ram or something..

Welcome

It could be a number of things i suppose. Beside rolling back, what else have u tried and are there any error codes. Also is it freezing as in desktop still there, but nothing works, or does it reeboot, or does it shutdown. Provide as much info as possible.

quick repsonses, lol

I can find anything in the event viewer which is an application error, which is IE shut its self down a minute it ago.

The computers 2 days old

When it crashes its just timing out, it just reboot its self or shutdown it just hangs and stays like it till i reset. It seems to happen sometimes when i click on an icon for it to perform a task and sometimes if i leave it running without doing anything, then i will come back and its not responding.

thanks

cheers, im never gonna use this shop again, they have done nothing but mess me around. I was going to try and re-install windows but i dont think that would do anything. Guess its time to give them a phone call

thanks

yup, take it back and i'd ask for the same model again, probably just a one off or they wouldn't be selling them :)

yeah i will, its a custom built model, i had to wait 3 and half weeks for it, as they didnt have parts in stock, and now this, im gonna build them myself in future!

hi, just an update on this if anyone can help, ive been looking thru my event log under the system part, and the error ive been getting is a DCOM error, and one error with the service control manager.

this is the description of the DCOM error:

and the service control manager error says:

if anyone could shed any light i would be gratful.

Thanks

It could be an overheating issue, it could also be a driver issue by the looks of the error in the event log for the NVIDIA Forceware (IAM), try and update the chipset drivers for the motherboard and the graphics card drivers, this may or may not solve the problem.
If you are unshure as to what drivers to download then post the model of the motherboard and/or the type of chipset it uses here and i will try to assist you any way i can.

Hope this helps!
