Hello, I have just finished putting together a new system, but when i try and and install XP the system hangs when it displays the message "setup is starting windows" and the screen will flicker once! Im not new to computer or building them for that matter but this has me stumped. I got a feeling it might be the graphics card or the RAM. I have also tried running the system with a HD that already had winxp installed, that that hands then trying to boot from safe mode and stops reporting after loading the following driver "Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\amdagp.sys" screen also flickers once then hangs.

My spec is:

Gigabyte K8NS Pro (with latest Bios F13)
Amd sempron 64bit 3100+
Sata HD
Creative Radeon 9200SE AGP
hynix 256DDR2100
CD-drive etc etc
300w power supply

Hope you can help

Oh have tried system with cosrair DRR400 with no luck there either.

try burning a new cd first. just to rule out a dud cd. if the hdd that has xp already installed came out of a different mobo to the one your trying to setup then that would explain why it wouldn't boot. especially if it came out of a machine using a different chipset/hard drive controller.

It does sound like the graphics card, try taking it out and pushing it back in.

Also check in the bios, make sure optimised defaults are loaded and check the agp mode, dissable fast writes etc, if you have a spare graphics card try that.

good luck

Yup tried this now 2, no joy :(

I aint got a share AGP card so will have to try and source one off a mate, also i'll try using a different RAM module later just incase it's that!

It's really annoying me now!
