Why is it "crap"?
I see this posted by a few people - unless you need the extra features that XP Professional gives you over XP Home then it is far from crap.
With the exception of better file security options and the ability for XP Professional to log into a domain the two OS's are identical.
99% of Professional users at home would be absolutely fine with XP Home - they just don't need the extra features that Professional offers.
In answer to your qauestion - Yes, it is perfectly legal for you to use a licensed copy of WinXP Home anywhere.
