I am building a new PC and need a OS so im looking at the cheapest and these 2 are the same price, i only use the PC for games internet and office any suggestions which to get? im leaning toward vista basic because of more security

vista home premium if you can stretch the extra 14 quid. forget vista basic. if money really is that tight, then get xp home. :)

Get XP Home - Vista Basic pretty much is XP Home (but not as good)

For everyday use, XP Home is indistinguishable from Pro anyway.

considering its only an extra £14 for vista prem i'd say get that, low budget or not a extra £14 aint gonna break the bank. it's certainly worth getting vista premium for games anyway as the newer and future titles will run better on vista.

Excuse me?

what is wrong with XP Home?

Since when has linux been a good gaming OS?

XP Home is garbage.

I didn't say linux was a good gaming OS (although its not bad for OGL based engines), but was mearly stating that if you are on a budget, get a free OS.

Suppose it comes down to if you want DirectX 10 support and/or decided to get 4GB of memory in the future.

I regret getting Vista HP for myself. Maybe my aging hardware is holding it back compare to the current hard drives and Intel overclocked processors.
