XP images

Just wondering if anyone has ever made an XP image that autodetects all hardware on startup? I use to do something similar with 95/98 by deleting some registry keys but at the moment I don't have time to attempt this on XP. I don't want it just autodetecting new hardware, but redetecting it all so I can use it on various systems without having to worry too much about any legacy drivers being loaded or the registry being worthlessly bloated due to old devices.

Any ideas?

Cheers Marc, had been using sysprep a little years ago but to be honest I hadn't really looked at it again. I'm hoping to use ghost and network ghostcasting as we have a site license so having a fairly generic image would help me a LOT!
