XP install problem

I have a strange XP install problem.

I'm trying to install XP clean on a new SATA drive. The drive is good as I have tested it in another system. I'm installing XP from CD. Early in the install process I press F6 and am prompted to install the SATA drivers (VIA VT8237 SATA RAID) from floppy. This goes fine. I then select a new XP install and am promoted to partition the now identified drive. I do this - 3 partitions of a 250 gig drive with 15 gig allocated to the intended XP directory (C:). Once I have done this, I am prompted to continue with the XP install and press 'enter' but get a message that the drive is not formatted or there is an error on it. The install then aborts. It doesn't seems to matter whether I select a quick format or full.

I am stumped - the only thing I can think is that I have installed the wrong SATA drivers (I can't track down the mobo driver disk - A8V Deluxe) but I am pretty sure that I have the correct Via drivers. I also have a Promise RAID controller on the board but am not using it. Any ideas?

Well I managed to get XP installed in the end. Tried another set of SATA drivers without joy, so in the end decided to partition and format the drive in Windows. Having done this, the install went ahead without a hitch - go figure.
