Hi guys.
I'm just obtained a pc for my sister (2.4 Pentium northwood chip, no up on the old Pentium's) and the system was running windows 98. Now she wanted to install XP so, using a new copy i went to install it as per usual but during the inital stages of booting from the cd it gave an error saying, "Setup cannot load the keyboard layout file Kbdus.dll. Setup cannot continue."

Now i have google'd the problem and there isnt much but there is THIS and THIS but i cant make sense of what how i give permission to it what i'm ment to do.

any help will be much appreciated as i have litterally a couple of hours to get this all up and running before i set off to uni again some 200 miles away and she cant do it herself.....

edit - forgot to mention that i put the drive in my pc, wiped it and installed xp on my system (ntfs partition ) put it back into the Pentium system and it refuses to even recognise the drive (maxtor diamond max 9 80gb) and still wont load the boot disk

So are you performing an upgrade or are you just starting fresh?....

If you still have the old OS on the drive and it's causing problems it may be worth sticking it in another PC, formatting it, then trying to the install... that is if you are ok with wiping the drive.

What do you mean wiped it and installed XP on your system?.....

If you are saying you installed XP on the drive while it was in your system then that is bound to cause problems, you only need to format the drive while in another system, then move it back into the system it is intended for and go through the install procedure.

ok i fully reformatted the partition in my pc, left it like that, went to install windows in the other system, still getting kbdus.dll error......
