XP Internet security 2011 :(

Hi all, a friend has this virus on thier machine, anyone know the best/easiest way to get rid? I've tryed spybot with no luck.

Theres so many things on the net saying they can do it but sound more like advertising to try their software.

Download Malwarebytes and run that. It gets rid of most of the nasties I come across. If it doesn't do it first time, try in safe mode.

+1 for MalwareBytes, then download and run the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (free - bottom of this page) and run it too.

Oh, make sure to turn off System Restore before you begin. Most nasties harbour themselves in there too.

This went ape**** at work last saturday lol spent 2 days cleaning everything up
MWB was updated and I think theres a couple of AV providers updated since the surge of infections, I know mcafee did. Safe mode, HJT for reg entries and MWB should fully be able to remove it.

The files themselves are normally in appdata on XP (seemed to be in java cache in W7), Icon on the .exe probably looks like the phpmyadmin icon.

Malwarebytes has cleaned this of clients PC's in the past no problem.

They normally stop Malwarebytes running and / or updating so running it in safemode with networking or from another user account is the best course of action.

And get some adblocking software like admuncher to stop them clicking on random malware popups and putting you through this again.

Yep Malwarebytes will clear it. Reset all IE settings as well afterwards.

does microsoft security essentials work on xp ? would that clear it ?

must have removed double digits worth of infections of this off client pcs with it.

Cleaned this off a friends laptop with malwarebytes.

There is also a Windows Vista version (trying to get rid of the ****** now on a client's pc) and a Windows 7 version. Upgrading OS will not fix this problem.

XP is not to blame here and is fine for a lot of people. Leave it and them be.

MSSE will work on XP. MSSE isn't very good at cleaning advanced malware. The best solution is to boot to safemode with networking, download mbam, update definitions and do a full drive scan.
