I came across a scenario the other day which I was asked to comment on but other people's views on it have made me second guess myself...

If a school has VLK for XP Professional across computers on site, are they permitted to install the OS on an employee's private laptop?

Are there variations to the licensing which allows this in some cases and not in others? (is there a set quota or similar?)

And also, do the same stipulations apply regarding COA stickers and the EULA for computers under the VLK?

Thanks :)

What volume licensing programme are they on? Also remember that OSs are upgrade only.

I don't really know (not looked into volume licensing in this way before). Not really information I was privvy to anyway.

When you say upgrade only, what do you mean? In this instance the individual's laptop was shipped with Vista Home Premium and had XP Professional installed using the VLK.

See if your licenses also come with "Home Use" allowance.
We have this for Office 2007 and will have it for Office 2010.
Anyone in the company can purchase Office 2007 Enterprise for £12 and use it on their own machine.
