I had an issue installing somthing this morning, the pc ended up shutting down some what sharpish. Then when it started back up it does not load up the log in screen. I am left on the blue background with the windows xp logo in the background. It has not frozen as I still have a mouse pointer that works. I have no log in pictures to click how ever.
To make matters worse I can not get in to safe mode as it has the same issue, it loads xp but gets stuck with the blue logo with no log in options. I have tried pressing ctrl alt del twice, but that does not bring up any log in options.

I am not in a position to do a xp recover install as I cant find my real xp disc. I only have one of those awful OEM ones that comes with a laptop. This does not allow me to do a repair install.

Any help of ideas would be great, I am stuck with a pc I cant log in to and a ton of uni work to do :(.

chkdsk throws this error up:

The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems

I had to fix the partition after the oem xp disc tried to format it without asking me if it was ok to do so!

I have installed xp on my second drive so i can view and edit files on my non booting windows drive. I still cant log in how ever :(.

*edit*
just found out when its stuck on the xp logo screen if i try alt tab i get two windows login programs listed, all though switching between them does nothing.

Can you press <Ctrl><Shift><Esc> to get Task Manager up?

Nope, nothing apears, I have been through pretty much every windows keyboard shortcut I know.

When I put the cd in, it whizzes through then goes to quick format, it does not ask me if I want to format or not. It did this twice, it is not a real OEM one, its a branded one that came with a laptop. I can not find my normal XP oem disc anywhere.

Tried every single one of those boot options. Safe mode is a no go as it does not load the login screen, just like the normal mode. I dont know if I mentioned but I can access the drives contents when I log in to my second xp install on my second drive. So I know the drive has not gone and blown up. I presume this is a windows issue stopping it getting to the welcome screen.

Sorry to double post, but I thought I would add some more info. I have got hold of a proper XP disc. Wacked it in and got to set up. It trys to find a windows instalation but cant find it :/. So I am guessing somthing has gone wrong if it cant even see windows.
