XP log on issues

Need some help with this one have tried various things and still it refuses to work.

Problem: XP loads fine to log on screen, yet once logging in it sends you right back to he log on screen. Safe mode is exactly the same.

have tried a few things on the web to sort this:

Repair install

also have tried using this link which seems to be repeated around the web

Neither are working, hard drive is virus free


Have run out of ideas now

If a Repair Install didn't fix it then I would probably just nuke and start again.

You can use a Linux Mint Live CD to access any documents and the like that you probably haven't already got backed up first.
