my mate has forgotten her password to login to windows xp home...is there any way to get past that screen...

Did you try going in using safe mode, logging in as Administrator and resetting her password?

actually i didnt...does the administrator account have a password...

By default it doesn't have a password...but it depends on who set the computer up etc. Just try it, if it doesn't work - carry out the suggestions above!
