In XP you can turn all of the fancy logon stuff offf so that you just get a square box in the middle of the screen.

Is there anyway to do that for vista?

very short answer this one. no. :p

there might be some 3rd party mod (i haven't checked) but there's no official way. even when you join vista to a domain, you still get the same welcome screen.

There are ways (using LogonXP / Logon Studio) to make the log-on screen in XP more aesthetically pleasing, but I found them to slow down the log-in procedure.
(It wasn't a huge difference, only like 3 seconds, but I often need to log-in quickly to check something)

Suppose there's no way to go back to the XP method whereby the pretty pics/usernames would appear without the administrator but then presssing CRTL-ALT-DEL would bring up the login dialog where you could logon as the administrator?

Have you got a screenshot or photo of what it looks like? I don't want to change all that and maybe be stuck with something I don't like :)

It looks like this..

Basically no image comes up, apart from the box for it . You have to type in your username too, essentially the same as the old style logon just a bit prettier.

Hope it helped ! :)

Also, any changes you make from that previous link you can put back so i wouldnt worry.
