right, im wondering, iv currently got a xp-m2600 running at 2.3ghz in a abit nf7-s v2 mobo. the gfx card is a agp x1950pro. have 1.5gb ram in it, 3 stiks of pc3200

now the thing is, this pc is mainly used for watching videos on but now with the x1950pro just banged in its used for some gaming too.

now the thing is, i have an opteron 146 lying around, and was wondering,
should i get a 35 quid asrock mobo and upgrade this old rig with the opteron 146?

i want to run super silent so will not be overclocking the opteron 146. question is. how much difference is there in hd video playback and gameing with a 2.3ghz barton vs a 2ghz opteron?
is it worth me spending the 35quid to make the change or will there be no real advantage in it?

bah, decided i may as well, the board is cheapo and it is a second pc so no real hassle involved with having any downtime with it. main issue will be putting back all the games it has installed on it. but i guess it may as well be done.

you will be able to sell the nf7 and xp-m for more than £35 i would have thought anyway :) win - win situation for you there really...

im afraid its a total loss situation. can;t find the asrock board anywhere for sale now. its gone out of production. :(

oh well looks like i got to rough it with the xp-m for longer.

It's a smidge over - but if you can get the cash for your socket A set it's well worth it - 146's are ripe for overclocking and that mobo will let you do a decent job of it ;) - go on - you know it makes sense!

(Oops - no AGP - Horlicks - sorry, will keep looking!)

Ah... Try searching for "MicroStar MSI K8T Neo2-F Socket 939 8x AGP" on google? Should suit - again a little over...

doh that b grade mobo would have been good if it had AGP. will look for the other one you mentioned.

on my asrock dual-sata2 i managed to get the cpu up to 2.9ghz at 1.375v, which is less than stock voltage, i suspect the mobo was the limiting factor since it can;t handle more htt.
