XP MCE 2005 tv problems

As title using the WinTV Nova - T PCI decoder card, clean install using driver:

WinTV-DVB-HVR-PCI-MCE_boards_88x_2_117_24275_WHQL

This is on an opteron 2.7ghz 2gb ram, 2x 7900GTX cards, latest nvidia 93.something drivers, all latest drivers,MCE2005 latest updates all updated from MS

I can scan for TV stations no problems (it finds ALL UK digital terrestrial stations no worrys, in the 'scan for services' section, however when I try and watch a TV station OR playback an old recorded TV show I saved in dvr-ms (basically recorded tv before I formatted)

It throws up error:

'The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed, please restart media center and/or pc'

How can I fix that ? Its never happened before, I used to just format, install driver and it worked, help!

edit fixed now I installed power dvd, no idea why it works with that installed ! lol

Because PowerDVD includes the codec needed. Most DVD players do - there are free alternatives too. I don't think Microsoft could include the necessary codec due to licensing issues.
