XP minimises games when new window opens

If a window opens on the desktop (a message over MSN or Steam Friends, or a program automatically updating itself), XP minimises my game to the taskbar. This is pretty infuriating when trying to play TF2 :mad:

, especially since I can't use the Steam community features ingame without the game minimising itself (Steam creates message/chat room boxes on the desktop as well as ingame for some reason).

Anyone know how to stop XP focusing on new windows or interrupting full-screen applications?

there's a reg edit to make windows autofocus, but it really shouldn't be enabled by default!

You can enable/disable active windows and auto focusing with Tweak UI, one of the windows power toys.

Does the same to me; I assumed it happened to everyone. I'll give TweakUI a go when I get home.

TweakUI didn't fix my problem. The autofocus was already disabled, and I enabled it and then disabled it again just to make sure.

My last install of XP didn't do this. Any other ideas?
