XP network and Vista laptop problems.

We've got a new laptop in work which has Vista Business. All the machines run XP pro.

It can access the internet no problems over the LAN but trying to open a document in word from another machine is all but impossible. I single page document can take up to 30 seconds to appear if at all.

Sometimes it won't even recognise others PC are on the network yet it still seems happy to tell me it is connected to a network and still has internet access even though it denies any other PC exists.

Any ideas?

I take it you want to open documents from that are stored on the other machines from the new Vista Laptop?

From what I have heard the file formats are different from previous versions of Word, Excel, powerpoint etc... (At this point i presume that the Vista laptop has Office 2007 and the other computers have 2003 or something??)

I think this could be what is causing the problem.

Have you tried switching off the firewall on the laptop to see if that allows it to see the other computers ?
