Xp or Vista x64

application stability in xp64 compared to my previous install of xp32 and vista64 on the same box was frankly shocking. nothing wrong with the machine.

No, but you must have set it up wrong or the drivers for 64 bit were badly written.

Generally I find 64 bit vista more stable than 32 bit, but meh, may be a placebo effect. I find some apps don't run on vista/7 full stop which is why I still have 32 bit xp on there as well as 64 bit 7RC, but not really found anything that runs on 32 bit that refuses to run on 64 bit (that i can remember atm anyway).

Give examples?

I have been running XP64 for over 4 years and Vista64 for a year ( But only since SP1 its been used fully )

I am in a lucky financial position to have been able to afford to adapt my home and extend it purely for all my PCs and during last year, I moved all 8 of my Gaming PCs o 64 Bit, only keeping XP32 on my wifes PC.

NONE have had a single issue with 64Bit at all with the exception of the game FireWarrior

Absolutely 100% of everythign else has either run exatly the same as XP32 or in many cases, its run better.

So, what example, other than the one I have given, can you give me, that shows that 64Bit is worse than 32Bit... Vista or XP

XP will be fine. But I'd dual boot xp and Windows 7 RC x64 if I were you. You get the best of both worlds for compatability and general usage then.

Vista x64 is OK, but XP seems better for older programs and with Windows 7's release just around the corner it is more worthwhile for most people to wait for that imo.

This.

XP and 7x64 is a perfect combination really.
